We give wine baskets to our touring guests!

Category: Having Fun at SVWGA — admin @ 8:31 am

Taking a tour of a winery can be a fun event whether you want a romantic date or a fun filled day with a group of friends. Wine tours can be taken in large or small groups. In a large group you just sit back, on a bus, and relax while tasting some delicious wine here and there. A small group tour lets you decide the pace you would like to tour the winery.

No matter what size group you tour the winery with, you will leave with a wonderful wine basket. Baskets of wine are given out to everyone that takes a tour of the winery each day. This offers a great way for you to sample some wines before having to purchase them. It is also a good idea to write down the wines that you like.

That way when you are looking to purchase a wine you will know what type you like. Remember, wine baskets will be given out to every touring guest so set up your tour soon and experience the fun of touring a winery.

Unusual Wine Uses

Category: Having Fun at SVWGA — admin @ 9:18 am

So you think wine is for drinking or gift giving.  Well it is…among other things. Wine makes a great cooking tool. Full bodied reds smooth out and sweetens beef flavors, giving meat a hearty depth to it’s taste. Back in history, red wines were used to dye hair and decorate the body for ceremonies. In religions, the red wines were a stand in for Christ’s blood and is still used as such religiously today. Medically, due to it’s alcohol content, wine has been used as an antiseptic for wounds. Early dentists utilized wine also, but experts argue that it may have only been because if one drinks enough, they don’t feel the pain as much. I’m curious to know of any other strange or unique wine uses. Please post them here.

A Year of Events at Shenandoah Vineyards

Category: Having Fun at SVWGA — admin @ 12:22 pm

The Shenandoah Vineyards in Virginia has a year long program of events. So, as well as the regular vineyard trips you can enjoy a whole host of special events. Many of these include a fabulous dinner to go along with those great tasting wines. But if you want to just savor the wines and soak up the scenery, why not take along your own picnic basket? I don’t mean a limp cheese sandwich – I mean a really special gourmet gift basket from The Basket Spot. My personal favorite for days out in the country like this is The Finer Things. There are all sorts of goodies like crackers and cheese and nuts which will slip down great with those Shenandoah wines.
